Starting Attacks

All Pokemon begin with at least one attack. Find your Pokemon on Serebii.net (make sure you are looking at the most recent game's data) or Bulbapedia and look at the Attack List. If there is a - where there would normally be a number, that is a Starting Attack for your Pokemon

Refer to this guide if you're still confused -> sta.sh/2uov6pz2lai

Learning Attacks

Pokemon are not limited to four attacks. You may learn as many attacks as you wish, but they require 6xp worth of art or writing of your Pokemon learning this attack, which means they are performing the attack you want them to learn. These images and stories count for xp, so remember to level up your Pokemon as well!

Attacks can occasionally be passed down to offspring, if you breed two Pokemon and a move is passed down, we will let you know in the Breeding Note.

Attacks you are allowed to learn are not limited to your Pokemon's level, you are allowed to learn it here as early as you so desire, with the proper amount of artwork. Likewise, you do not automatically learn an attack after reaching a certain level.
Any move that you pokemon's species can learn can be taught with exp, this includes but is not limited to: egg moves, TM moves, move tutor moves, etc.
All attacks outside of Starting Attacks must be learned or taught using a TM.

Important Note: The exp required to teach a move may be split between no more than 2 images/stories.  Said exp should come from the image/story exp itself and not from any bonuses gained from events or prompts.

TMs

For those of us too lazy to teach our Pokemon attacks the hard way, there are TMs. A TM is a one-use item that instantly teaches your Pokemon an Attack they could normally learn.

Simply comment on the Professor’s Log on your Pokémon’s plaque with the chosen move, making note that you would like to use a TM to teach it.

Z Crystals/Z Moves

Z moves are a exception to the rules above.  In order for your pokemon to learn a Z Move a Z Crystal is required to be used.

Simply comment on the Professor’s Log on your Pokémon’s plaque with the chosen move, making note that you would like to use a TM to teach it.

Leveling Up

This is a Pokemon game, right? So of course you can level your Pokemon! Everything you do with one of your Pokemon, be it drawing them, writing about them, or sometimes even entering them into contests will earn them xp, which levels them up.

Experience System:

Reference Image: ... 2 Exp
A colored fullbody image that makes it easy to see markings and colors, used for Reference Sheets.
If your ref includes more than one unique pose or any other extra elements, you may not gain exp from them until that is no longer the active ref.

Fullbody: ... 2 Exp
A colored fullbody image of one or multiple Pokemon doing anything. To be fullbody, at least 3/4's of the Pokemon must be shown (We do have a leniency on this policy regarding certain angles, poses, and pictures with multiple Pokemon, but please do not abuse it!).

Headshot: ... 1 Exp
A colored head or bust shot of one or multiple Pokemon doing anything.

100 Words: ... 1 Exp
Word Count is rounded down, so if you write 187 words, it only counts for 1Exp. Pokemon involved in writing only receive as much Exp as they are involved in. For instance, if you have a Pokemon active for only ~100 words in a 500 word story about another Pokemon, the one that participated briefly would only receive 1 Exp.

* Simple Animation: ... +1 Exp
Less than 4 frames - Bouncing, Blinks, Ear Flicks, Etc.

* Complex Animation: ... +3 Exp
More than 4 frames - Running, Large or Multiple Body Movements, Etc.

* For animations to count, the POKEMON must be animated, not just the background.

Background: ... +1 Exp
You may use the same background up to four times. You may not use photographs. Backgrounds must be of a background- grass, sky, trees, the inside of a house, etc...

Shading: ... +1 Exp
Obvious shading only. The entire image must be shaded, not just the grass under the Pokemon.

Sculpted: ... +2 Exp
Anything made out of clay/etc.

Uncolored Images: ... -1 Exp
Clean, uncolored images are accepted for 1exp less than their colored counterparts.

Trainers: ... +1 Exp
Including Trainers in pictures with the Pokemon. Must be at least half of the trainer (legs or torso).

Reused lineart does not count.

Level System:

Level = Experience

Example:
Level 2 = 2 Exp
Level 3 = 3 Exp
etc.

Although Pokemon start with 0xp, we refer to them as Level 1 regardless. You may not use a Pokemon before you have at least created a ref sheet for it, which would make it a Level 2 at the very least anyway.

PokeGift

If you draw gift art for a friend or another user, you get +1 EXP for every full body Pokemon of theirs you draw to give your own Pokemon.

Example...
You draw three colored & shaded full body images for your friend as a gift. You could then claim +3 EXP to give to one of your own Pokemon.
These images can be of the same Pokemon or of three different Pokemon.

It must be gift art, and may not be claimed for commissions.
If you are found claiming Gift Exp for commissions, you will be removed from the Group.

*Please note, gift art means you are getting nothing in return. If you are receiving an item, art, Points, money, or any other good or service in exchange, it is not a gift.

Evolution

If your Pokemon evolves at a certain level, you may choose to have it evolve at any level past its evolution point.
Example: Metapod evolves at Level 10, you may evolve your Metapod at Level 10 or hold out til Level 11, 12, whatever.

If you are evolving a Pokemon that doesn't require an Evolution Stone, please comment HERE!
When evolving with levels you must wait to update a reference until you are given the go ahead by a mod for evolution.

Evolution Stones
If your Pokemon does not evolve by leveling up (Happiness Evolution, Stones, Trading, etc.) then it requires an "Evolution Stone". You may use this item on any Pokemon that can evolve. Evolution Stones are regularly given out in raffles and during competitions as prizes, as well as sold in the Market and TP Shoppe.

To use an evolution stone please comment under the Professor’s Log on your pokemon’s plaque asking to use an evolution stone and let us know what stage you would like to evolve to.  For example: I would like to use 2 evo stones to evolve my charmander into a charizard.

The same applies for devolution pebbles, however, this item makes your Pokémon go backwards in stages.  So a raichu can become a pikachu again!

i have a question about z crystals. can you use them to teach pokemon z moves that they can't normally learn? such as teaching a non mew genesis supernova, or would you need an exotic berry for it to work?

if it does work, would you need the move corresponding to that z move as well? for example thunderbolt for pikashinium z or volt tackle for pikanium z.

(just thought i'd ask, since im thinking of teaching my pidgeot soar some z moves, and some legendary z moves would be awesome, such as light that burns the sky. on a pidgeot.)
